Far back Friday post! Azimuth, 2004, mica, polymer & acrylic on canvas, 90 x 71 inches.
During the 2000s, I poured paint and 'drew' with gravity. I used mica to incorporate movement of the viewer and/or shifting light and environment. I wanted these large paintings to be experiential -- look like air & feel atmospheric so the color is minimal and faint. I've pumped up the contrast so you can see it on a screen. I included a truer, faint image as well as some details.
Over the past year I've been revisiting these pouring/gravity methods and experimenting with folding it into my current mark-making & layering process. Stay tuned for those results...

Back to work. While layers on the big paintings are drying, I'm organizing, documenting and storing works on paper & small paintings made over the past year. I'm going to need some more flat files...
Started a new series a few weeks ago, still in the early stages; painting layer by layer... it takes at least 2 days (sometimes much longer) for each layer to dry so I work on multiple canvases at once--sometimes stacking them above smaller canvases to maximize studio space. As paintings progress, I zero in on 2 or 3 and put the others away. I focus exclusively on those few paintings. When they're finished, I return to work on a few more of the #worksinprogress. It will be a few more weeks before any of these are finished.

I saw three shows yesterday and... serendipity. Lorene Anderson's paintings at K Imperial, Dante Marioni's glass vessels at Dani Montague, and Ann Gale at Dolby Chadwick ( with a piece by Ann Weber from the DC back room, because it fit the overall theme so well).
