Back in the studio (with my assistant 🐶)! Getting ready to dive back into new paintings & touch up a few big canvases that are just about finished.
Before my trip, I poured thick, clear polymer layers on new #worksinprogress so those layers would have ample time to dry while I was away. I placed large sheets of cardboard above the #wips to slow down drying in order to prevent crazing & cracking (swipe to see that studio shot). This is one of many, many things I learned about acrylics while a resident at the @golden_art_fdn a few years ago. They’re taking applications now & I highly, highly recommend applying!!!

I’m visiting my folks, while going through boxes of old slides we found this photo Dad took of Joan Brown & me at my MFA show @bampfa in May, 1990. I’m forever grateful I had the opportunity to study with her so closely when I was a grad student @ucberkeley_artpractice .

In 2018, I was commissioned by @imagerywinery to create a painting for a wine label & for their art collection. My label was placed on a wonderful 2018 White Burgundy Reserve. Exhibiting apricot, stone fruit & tropical notes — according to my wine connoisseur husband @michaelhockingworld — it’s perfect for this hot weather. It was released in 2020.
Commissioned artists aren’t limited by medium or style, the only exception is that the work must contain a likeness of the Parthenon replica that is on the @benzigerwinery estate. I painted several options with the Parthenon image buried within my swirling compositions, but ultimately I decided to put its likeness front & center.
We popped open a bottle while watching the @warriors play last night. 🏀

New double-sided painting! Acrylic on translucent synthetic paper, 12 x 9 inches. I’ve been experimenting with different ways to present my double-sided paintings & loving this solution: the painting is mounted on thick plexi which allows some light to bounce through the translucent paper (but not too much!). You can see the slight glow of the fluorescent yellow lines painted on the reverse side in the details. The glow is more apparent in person, it’s hard to see in a photo or online (as is the case for most artwork…).
