Putting the finishing touches on this big guy. On top of exploring layers of time, sound waves, parallel realities…, this new painting also revisits one of the concepts from my large, atmospheric painting series in the ‘00s — trying to capture the ethereal sensation of air against the skin or the enveloping embrace of fog or a mist—evoking elements of temperature, moisture, and movement. Subtle, shifting colors generate a quiet vibration. Similar to the way one’s gaze navigates through mist or fog, visual focus shifts, meandering from the forefront to the middle layers, occasionally settling on delicate accents of acid pink or flecks of mica that act as anchors or focal points. Really hard (impossible?) to experience in a post.

#throwbackthursday post! Reworking a painting that’s been ‘percolating’ for quite a while. I work on several paintings at once, but don’t complete them all at the same rate. Some come together more quickly than others, some confound me so I need to take time to rethink & rework… or I just need to put a painting away for a year or more then look at it with fresh eyes & hopefully come up a fresh solution. This is one of those paintings. Excited about completing this & super excited about other new developments so stay tuned!
